Cloth Diapers Tips #1

So you're interested in changing to cloth diaper  That will take a lot of motivation. The first thing you need to do is to clarify the reasons. You need to have the reasons tat you believed in. Though many said the best thing about cloth diaper is its money saving factor (which is true), there is a greater argumentation behind this 'movement'. Its's called a greener choice.

Let's take some facts. A baby will need roughly about 1800 diapers per year.

(5diapers X 360 days)

Now you can times the many years a baby will still wearing diaper. A non potty training baby will wear diaper for a minimum of 4 years.

(1800 X 4years= you calculate)

By now you can even calculate the cost you're going to save. But let us compare of how much a cloth diapers will needed instead. Typically a baby will need at lesat 16 cloth diapers for the rest of his/her diaper years.

Yes, 16 washable cloth diapers. And you can pass that to the next siblings. And you can even sell in in craig list or mudah.com as preloved items.

16 is an ample quantity for moms to do laundry every two days. Because cloth diapers need drying time.

(8diapers per day x 2 days)

So some moms have about 20 - 30 CD (cloth diapers) per baby just to fit a weekly laundry schedule.

Some company (like GroVia) introduced a diapering system for their diapers brand that only use 4 cloth diapers per day. Meaning you only need about 8 to last for two days. Awesome.

Scaled-down life

There are things in life that can make you stop breathing and your heart drums. No, I'm not talking about Edward Cullen (not Robert Pattinson) or your high school crush, I'm talking about adult hobbies. Err using 'adult' make it sound explicit. But it is really about hobbies. Below are my heart-thumping things:

1. Miniature Gardens
want to live here??

This is actually a bit new, inspired by the Pot Hole Gardener in youtube. Some called it Miniature Garden or Fairy Garden etc. I called it as something-I-pretty- want-to-get-involve-with-but-of-course-I-need-to-start-going-to-the-nursery. There're tons of of tutorials and beautiful pictures online to guide you, if you'd like to start one. I'm studying the type of plants they used because it's quite complicated I mean how do I translate the names of the plants,,, or doses the local nursery have it... dwarf daisies for instance. Will make a visit to the Sungai Buloh nursery chain. Been eyeing it toooo long.

2. Sylvanian Families
Aduuuhhh... those tiny little rabbits in tiny little dresses, cute tea set with cups and cakes, cabinets with knobs, tiny window with curtains.. oh the details killing me. I never missed a chance to take a glance (a long staring activity) at those happy rabbits whenever I pass toy department. I would love to own them one day but I think Miniature Garden (No 1) can replace my love for these. (Based on affordability and age appropriate)

3. Little Town
The picture doesn't really reflect my passion for little town, but that playmat does looks fun. My perfect little towns a movable and expandable and aren't restrict. It can be made of card board or paper, or Lego and even plasticine. It idoesn't have to be perfect or evenly scaled. The main thing is it trigger imagination. we used to made little town with out Lego and the sensation still lingers around. When Mika is old enough not to turn everything into edible items, I will made him a tiny town.

Towards a greener life- Cloth Pads

So I've switch to Cloth Diaper some time ago. It's the best choice ever. Yes you have to do the laundry but wrapping soft fabric to your baby skin versus plastic wrapping (disposable diaper) make me felt better.
After a long break of 8months, I had my period again. I can't help myself but to rush to the Whizzini Store in Kanchut and bought theese lovely cloth Pad from Mama Patch. Yes, as expected, these cloth pads are soft to skin, and absorbent. Easy to wash! The down side is i just bought five of them and it cost me almost a hundred. Five is not enough definitely each can last about 3-4hours so I need about 8 probably, plus drying time so 10-15pads should be enough. I can save more if only i made those myself, there are so many free tutorials to make your own clot pads in the internet. But until now i haven't start any so buying the ready made home-made is the best closest option. If you want to make calculation of how much you can save with cloth pads go ahead, as I'm more interested with the beneficial part of it:

(proven means I've tested and it's proven true!)

Cloth Pads do not smell-proven!
Unlike disposable laden with harmful chemical and gel that release chemical fumes when wet, cloth pad is fully made of breathable cloth. You will be surprise to learn that your blood actually does not smell at all!

Cloth pads do not leak! - proven
Although water resistant, blood still seep through if you do not change for long hours especially during heavy days.
But the Premium Cloth Pads from Mama Patch with PUL bottom, is totally waterproof.

Cloth pads are not bulky! - yes it is slim and yet absorb like a pro!
On contrary, cloth pad is ultra slim as it only contains cloth. Unlike disposable with chemical and gel, cloth feels much more comfortable to skin as compare to sticky soiled disposable.

Our blood is not that dirty! - very easy to wash, not like disposable pads
Our blood is sterile and is not dirty inherently. Blood is easily washed out of cloth.
However disposable plastic pads are actually unhealthier because they create a hotter environment (by trapping air and not allowing air flow) which promotes fastergrowth of bacteria which leads to itch, rashes and thrush.

What are you waiting for? Let's go greener!

p/s: Next GREEN step is to seperate recycle household rubbish
See the wetbag, specially designed to keep your cloth pads seperately; staines and clean. Cool.
